The Delivery Dilemma: a Stupid New Rule

2022 is a special year at Govs as many new policies emerge. Today, I want to talk about the food ordering policy specifically.

This year, Govs has a rule that all food orders must be picked up at the student center. Faculties state that this policy change is due to safety concerns, since delivery drivers sometimes drive too fast and may affect students’ safety. I think this policy is a little bit suspicious in some ways.

Govs dining hall has good food, and students order food mainly because they are tired and they don’t want to go to the dining hall. However, if the students need to go to the student center to pick up their orders, it would be very inconvenient for students who live in dorms like Ingham and Eames.

As winter gradually approaches, more and more students will choose to order, and the new policy will greatly affect the convenience of ordering food. In addition, I don’t think “safety” is a good way to explain this policy change. I can hear some crazy motorbikes and cars every day in my dorm room and the school can do nothing to them since Elm street is a public street.

Directing all the delivery traffic to the student center will not slow down the speed of Uber Eats or Doordash drivers.

Finally, the grill bar is in the student center. If all deliveries need to be picked up at the stu, the grill bar would seem a better option. Maybe Govs just want to get more profit from grill bars.
